What will I need before he arrives?

I’m 23 weeks pregnant and between showers and Christmas I want to be able to get just about everything I need for his arrival. I also only want to ask for the nessesities. Thing is with as much experience as I have with babies (I work in day care) I’m not sure what I’ll need when my own arrives.
The list I have right now includes:
Crib (the convertible style that becomes a toddler bed)
Crib mattress and sheets
Car seat
Changing Pad/ Sheets (I’m using an old dresser as a changing table)
Bottles/ liners
Breast Pump
Sleepers
Bibs
Blankets
Bath
Baby bath supplies (shampoo etc…)
Baby laundry soap
Sling (instead of a stroller)
Baby meds
Diapers (wide variety)
LOTS of Wipes

I already have a ton of clothes, a diaper bag, and a noises teddy bear.

Anything I’m missing that I can’t get by without?

I always think of one thing I need that’s never on these lists: a tiny lingerie style laundry bag (preferably that zips, not ties) for washing baby socks, newborn hats, baby washcloths etc.- all the tiny items that could get lost in the washing machine.

Also breast pads- I like Avent’s reusable cotton ones. I could never get used to having a paper pad on my boobs, and if you use disposables very long, that could get expensive. I still wear them (especially at night or when traveling for the day for shopping or whatever) and my son is 3 1/2 months old.

What kind of pump are you looking at getting? Most pumps now have bottles that work with them, so you don’t need bottles and liners unless your pump won’t do that. I only pump to keep up an emergency supply and for the occasional bottle from my mom, so I use an Avent manual (Isis) and I really like it. Avent has bottles, freezer cups, etc. so I just use all Avent products- they all screw together/work together, even including the sippy cups.

On our dresser/changing table we liked to lay an absorbant cotton lap pad down, then if baby peed or whatever we could just wash the lap pad rather than washing the cover a million times. At the beginning we go through a few lap pads a day, so the cover would have been gone a lot. They have them at Wal-Mart near the sheets if you aren’t familiar with what I’m talking about.

We also love our swing. But if you’re wanting the sling because you want to be a “baby wearer” ;o) then that’s not for you.

I’d recommend asking for specifically only unscented wipes. My babies have both been very sensitive to wipes but do fine with any brand of unscented. Also, Pamprers Swaddlers are scented and burned my daughter’s bum when she was still in the hospital, she had to wear cloth diapers for 10 days. So I’d stay away from Swaddlers, the other Pampers are fine.

Your list looks great, though. I’m glad you don’t have tons of extras listed. Congrats~
