Why did my Dodge Caliber make so much road noise? ?

OK, I thought I wanted to but a Dodge caliber, and then I had a chance to rent one in Boston/ I drove it out on the Mass Pike and into the Boston suburbs.

I like the car, but I decided that I could not live with the road noise. This car had about 26k on the odometer and was in decent shape for a rental.

I was wondering if anyone who knows about cars can tell me why this car has so much road noise? Did I just have one with bad tires?

I like to listen to music and I decided that the road noise was just too high to listen to music and would frustrate me, I mean as a commuter car. I guess I don’t want this car. Or did I get a bad one?

depends on which model it was the caliper r/t edition has low profile tires that are a much stiffer ride and also create more road nose, it could all relate to how the car had been drove with previous renters ( spinning tires, e-braking, etc all effect how the tire makes contact with the road and can cause noise, pull and even vibrations. so the best suggestion would be to visit a dealer and drive a new caliber and see if you like it.
