There’s a car i want to buy but … bad sales review?

Well i live in southern california. Los Angeles area. Well i’m looking for a new car. I decided i wanted to buy a Integra GS-R or a 99-00 Civic SI. Well it’s rare to find these cars. And i have found different kinds on craigslist.org and autotrader.com and autos.yahoo.com i’m just hoping they don’t get sold before i have the opportunity to buy any of them. Well there are three cars on this specific lot in Bellflower. The company is called Planet Cars Inc. And well I looked on yahoo to see how far it is from my house. and i noticed that it had a link. i clicked on it and showed me the reviews of the place. it got HORRIBLE reviews. as in 1 star. and many people (8-12) seemed to have horrible experiences and heard the workers are DONKEYS.Well i do want to buy off their lot since it’s the closest. But i don’t think i should. Should i avoid them? or hope they have better service now. and hope that i get a reliable car.?

You REALLY have to be careful, especially when buying used vehicles that are both typically without any warranty protection (or the warranty that may be included is usually ONLY honored by THAT dealer), and far less legally protected by any options you would have for recourse if they haven’t been forthcoming.

Just because they’re required to do or disclose certain things doesn’t mean they do. You can do certain things to hedge your bets, like buying your own CarFax report, but that will only show significant title events (and perhaps accidents), not how well or reliably that particular vehicle happens to run.

What may seem like a “once in a lifetime” opportunity can wind up costing you dearly. Unless you’re buying a new vehicle and you have the actual manufacturer to stand behind the vehicle even if the dealer won’t, you’re really flying solo and flying blind when it comes to dealing with a “lot” rather than a bona fide dealer.

Sure, there’s only so much truthfulness and accuracy anyone should attribute to unaccredited review sources; but if the only available reviews are so consistently damning, I’d suggest where there’s smoke, you’re likely to find fire. No matter how appealing these particular models may be, I’d suggest you’d be far better-served by buying through a reputable, established new car dealer that also sells used cars. They can search nearby dealers’ inventories to help locate vehicles that they themselves may not have on-hand.
