Whimsical Wedding Trends: Polka Dots

Polka dots have been popular since the 1940′s and are making a huge comeback.  Couples are choosing this whimsical and delightful design pattern as their unifying wedding decor theme.  Starting with fun and sassy polka dot “save the date” cards to wedding invitations and thank you notes, this theme can be easily carried out throughout the engagement and up to the wedding day. 

Brides who choose to incorporate the theme into their ensemble can look to designers who are using subtle white on white dotted fabrics.  Veiling with chenille dots, satin dots, or embroidered dots and white on white dotted gloves are other options for sweet accents. 

Polka dotted ribbons can be used throughout the entire wedding day.  Bouquets, boutonnieres, church pews and bridal party cars can all be unified with gorgeous polka dotted ribbons.

Specialty stores carry wonderful polka dotted latex balloons which can be gathered into balloon bouquets and placed throughout the reception venue as well as the entryway.  Polka dot linen napkins can be used to layer over white table linens to create a stunning tabletop.  Flower vases or votive holders can be easily “dotted” using coin shaped stickers in the appropriate colors.

The dessert table can host all types of dotted sweets.  Petit fours or cookies with sprinkles or non pareils in theme colors are a great choice.  Wedding cakes or cupcakes decorated with fondant dots complete the look.

Pastel paper candy dots can be used in a variety of ways to decorate the venue.  Make paper chains out of the strips and fill large lidded glass apothecary jars to make stunning centerpieces.  Hang candy dotted paper chains as garland or use them as swags to drape the bridal party table. 

Use jellied candy “Dots” as party favors.  Small shallow boxes filled with Dots lined up in rows and tied with polka dot ribbon is one idea.  Small cellophane bags filled with dots and topped with a bow is another yummy favor.

Using polka dots as a decorative wedding theme will bring smiles and joy to guests who will be delighted with this fun and flirty look.
