Brazils Ethanol Fuel Program $93.99 The Brazilian ethanol fuel program (Proalcool) is the worlds largest biomass to energy program. The purpose of this book is to provide an overview of the Brazilian experience with ethanol as a substitute for gasoline and analyse its future prospects in both Brazil and the world market. Initiated in 1975 as a response to the first oil crisis and the resulting sharp increase in worldwide oil prices, the program has experienced prolonged periods of both splendour and gloom. Early success was followed by a period during which the program came under intense criticism on economic grounds due to low oil prices and high ethanol production costs. On the verge of collapsing, Proalcool was only lately revived due to a multiplicity of socioeconomic and environmental reasons. In recent years there has been renewed global interest in biofuels and a rapid expansion of biofuels markets. This book will therefore be of great help to policymakers, academics and business people curious to learn how was Brazil able to create the competitive assets that made Proalcool a success in terms of developing institutional and technological capabilities for using a renewable fuel in large scale. The Gasoline AgeWhy? by Redman, Herbert J. [Paperback] $27.87 In an age when the supply of gasoline to feed this modern American society has become both more expensive and more scarce questions are being pondered. Inquires like, How can a modern society scale back its dependence on gasoline as a motive source? Are there genuine alternative power sources? Are they the answer to a growing crisis? Recent announcements of hybrids like those from Honda, Toyota, and Ford have really brought attention to this issue. Hybrids that use both gasoline engines and electric motors. Really, though, alternative power sources have been around for as long as the automobile has been. The battle between and among the steam car, the electric and the gas car was fought out in the first couple of decades of the twentieth century. This book explores the ins and outs of that battle. A struggle from which the gasoline car emerged completely victorious. To such an extent that steam cars and electric cars virtually disappeared from the scene for many decades. We will look over all three alternatives, exploring their advantages and disadvantages. We will also look over the obstacles to the steamers and the electrics. Barriers that still exist to a certain extent. Handicaps that caused their disappearance in the first place. Author: Redman, Herbert J. Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 268 Publication Date: 2006/08/01 Language: English Dimensions: 9.00 x 6.00 x 0.61 inches |

History of Ethanol Fuel in Brazil $114.71 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The history of ethanol fuel in Brazil dates from the 1970s and relates to Brazils sugarcane based ethanol fuel program, which allowed the country to became the worlds second largest producer of ethanol, and the worlds largest exporter. Several important political and technological developments led Brazil to became the world leader in the sustainable use of bioethanol, a policy model for other countries, 6] and allowed the country to achieve a landmark in ethanol consumption, when ethanol retail sales surpassed 50 market share of the gasolinepowered vehicle fleet in early 2008. This level of ethanol fuel consumption had only been reached in Brazil once before, at the peak of the ProAlcool Program near the end of the 1980s. Ethanol Production from Date Syrup $95.59 The present investigation deals with continuous ethanol production from date syrup by using a flocculent yeast. The main portion of the system consisted of a jacketed cylindrical Pyrex glass bioreactor where the date syrup was pumped from its base and the product was received from the top. BoxWilson composite rotatable design was constructed to obtain the proper conditions of ethanol fermentation temperature, date syrup concentration and feeding flow rate]. It is possible to obtain from this technique a polynomial equation which describes how these variables affect ethanol production. The optimum conditions are: Temperature: 29.5 C, Date syrup concentration: 64.47 mg/cm3, Feeding flow rate: 200 cm3/hr. The study shows that flocculent yeast is more efficient in continuous ethanol production process when it is compared with nonflocculent yeast. Flocculent yeast cells are able to aggregate and make flocs so that, the cells will remain in the column. Date syrup was used in this research as a sugar substrate because it was the available sugar source in Iraq and usually used in ethanol production. Maximum conversion of date syrup to ethanol is 92.99. Gasoline and Diesel Usage and Pricing $89.22 The usage and pricing of gasoline results from factors such as crude oil prices, processing and distribution costs, local demand, the strength of local currencies, local taxation, and the availability of local sources of gasoline. Since fuels are traded worldwide the trade prices are similar, the price paid by consumers largely reflects national pricing policy some regions, such as Europe and Japan, impose high taxes on gasoline others, such as Saudi Arabia and Venezuela, subsidise the cost. Western countries have among the highest usage rates of gasoline per person. The largest consumer of gasoline is the United States, which used an average of 386 million US gallons of gasoline each day in 2005 Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 108 Publication Date: 2009/12/23 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.25 inches |

Ethanol Effects on Hepatic Proteolytic Systems $117.9 Excessive ethanol consumption causes liver injury, resulting in steatosis (fatty liver), alcoholic hepatitis, fibrosis, and ultimately cirrhosis. About 15 of alcoholics develop cirrhosis, this particular liver disease is normally irreversible. However, alcoholic fatty liver and, alcoholic hepatitis can be reversed. Ethanolinduced liver injury is, in part, caused by oxidative stress resulting from enhanced oxidant formation. One oxidant, peroxynitrite (PN), is a byproduct of ethanol metabolism and is generated by the induction of nitric oxide synthase. This leads to the increased generation of nitric oxide which reacts with superoxide to form PN. PN causes the nitration of proteins by forming 3nitrotyrosine adducts on their tyrosine residues. Threenitrotyrosine adducts can alter the biological activities of proteins. Degradation of proteins also can be altered by the stress of oxidants on the lysosome and proteasome, the two principal proteolytic systems of the cells. Author: CurryMcCoy, Tiana V. Filling Station $79.66 A gas station, fueling station, filling station, service station, petrol station, garage, gasbar, petrol pump or petrol bunk (India) is a facility which sells fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles. The most common fuels sold are petrol (gasoline in U.S. and Canada) or diesel fuel. Fuel dispensers are used to pump petrol (gasoline in U.S. and Canada), diesel, CNG, CGH2, HCNG, LPG, LH2, ethanol fuel, biofuels like biodiesel, kerosene, or other types of fuel into vehicles. Fuel dispensers are also known as bowsers (in Australia). Petrol pumps (in Commonwealth countries), or gas pumps (in North America). In recent times, filling stations have also begun to sell butane and have added shops to their primary business; convenience stores are now a familiar sight alongside pumps. With the advent of electric vehicles and rechargeable battery operated cars, gas stations or filling stations will soon offer charging docks for these cars. In fact, certain stations in the United States and other countries already offer these services. The term gas station is mostly used in the United States and Canada, where the fuel is known as gasoline or gas.
