95 Chevy Cavalier-smoke, wont go pass 30mph, noise…..PLEASE HELP?

Okay. yesterday i went for a drive and my car started to sputter and backfire..so my bf and i went to auto zone and he replaced the SPARK PLUGS…because the old ones were destroyed. So then we took it for a drive and it drove good. then i went to work this morning and it even drove fine…then 3 hrs later i go on break and i take my car to Dunkin Donuts which is only 2mins away. All of a sudden my car started shaking really bad and i got scared then i pushed on the gas and i had to push the pedal all the way done and it only went to 30mph…and so i drove to my grams and turned it off and it started smoking? any suggestions of why or what it is?

NOTE- all liguids [oil, transmission fluid, and coolant are FULL] & there was no leak or the Check Engine light didnt come on..and the temp. gage was in the middle [normal].

so i have no idea.. and we let the car cool off for a couple hours. then turned on and it was the same way.. the motor was tapping and shaking.

What engine is it? What kind of spark plugs did you get?

It sounds like one of the cylinders is not firing.

Check to make sure they’re all sealing well, take them out and inspect them for damage, you could’ve gotten a bad one (i.e. one that got dropped) Go get 1 more, and switch try it in place of each of the plugs to see if you can find the bad one. Also, make sure the spark wires are in good order too.
