Which 4×4 could you recommend?

I was hoping that somebody would be able to give me some advice regarding 4x4s. I live in the country, 2 smallish children and a small dog. I have just started up a new business renting out classic VW campers and have come to the conclusion that although not politically correct, a 4×4 will be needed for towing these 2.5 ton vehicles around occassionally. Unfortunately for me, this vehicle will also take the place of our current family car – a Mercedes Kompressor SE, which I love.
As I live in the country there are lot of 4WDs around, but they look very ‘farmish’ which I don’t want. My husband likes the VW Tourag, and although I like the interior, it is a very large vehicle and as I will have to do the weekly shop with it (40 mile round trip to the nearest town), I would like something smaller. Personally I like the X5 as I think it is more manageable. Does anybody own these? Or what advice can you give on vehicles that I may not have thought of.

i wouldn bother, not when you can get the best of both worlds now adays, id look into the permanent 4 audi a4 estate or something similar as you get the 4×4 and the ground clearance without having a high unstable center of gravity you also get the fuel economy from the aerodynamics {most 4×4′s is like throwing a brick into the wind} you get the normal every day practicality of a car and there is more than enough room for a family and family dog as wheel as being spectacular towing vehicles. but if you insist on a big vehicle then i would suggest the mitsi warrior or nissan nevaro dont waste your money on some stupid 4×4 that is trying to be a car like the toureg, m5, volvo x90, land/range rover or nissan cash kai etc as they aren any good as a car and they aren any good as a 4×4 there just for show offs and mothers who feel the need to drive there 1 child to school in
