Don’t Trash That Chair! Use An Upholstery Stapler To Fix It! Go Green!

So you’ve got an old, crappy worn out sofa or love seat you’re just going to throw out.  What are you made of money?  I don’t think so!  With the current economic climate and things not getting better why are you not just fixing that chair up?  Most people simply don’t know how easy it is to reupholster a chair and make it look brand spanking new.  You see adding some new fabric to a worn out, tired looking chair can really make a difference and possibly salvage the sucker.

To get started on your first project choose a relatively easy, small chair to work on.  If you don’t then find a piece of particle board or something you can upholster using a upholstery stapler.  Once you’ve found your piece of furniture or wood to work on you’re going to need to measure it and come up with a fabric amount.  After determining how much fabric you need add 1 inch to the total size.  By adding more than you need you can easily trim excess fabric but use too little and that upholstery stapler will simply eat it all up!

After you’ve gotten the fabric ready the next step is to load your upholstery stapler up with staples and start from one end of the chair moving slowly through the fabric and stapling it to the chair.  Always allow excess fabric but make sure the chair and new cover is pulled tightly together.  If you don’t have an upholstery stapler I’ve included some links below to help you get started and find one.

Once the new fabric is completely fastened in place the next step is to take a utility knife and very gently trim excess fabric from the brand  new chair you’ve just given life too!  Going green isn’t just about solar and cars but changing the way we treat the earth and giving life to something that may have ended up in the garbage heap!
