Whats the deal with the stimulus package?

I read about an 8000 tax credit for 1st time home buyers, is that if you’re married or does it double if you’re married. And the credit for buying a new car, you write off the sales tax, is that a new new car or a new car to the buyer?

There is currently a $7,500 tax credit that Bush implemented last year. That expires this summer. There were talks of a $15,000 tax credit for first time home buyers in this new bill, but I have heard it was removed.

The $7,500 is available now. It is a no-interest loan that must be paid back over 17 years. You have 2 years of no payments and then 15 years after that to pay it back at about $42 a month.
