What’s the best way to update a car’s exhaust for performance?
I plan on upgrading my exhaust system for my car which is a 1994 VW Golf but I haven’t any idea which way is the best. Are there mufflers that are good and ones that are bad? Has any one ever heard of high flow catalytic converters and if so what do they do? Does my resonator in my car serve a purpose or would it be bad if I took it out?

They are a “straight through”catalytic converter.
A race cat, headers and low backpressure muffler will give you a little extra performance; but,probably not as much as you would think…additionally and VERY important…..a race cat. will satisy the law ONLY in the requirement of HAVING a catalytic converter; however, if you have emissions/smog testing laws in your area…it might not pass.
Headers and other exhaust mods will enhance other mods (turbos, superchargers, NOS.. etc) but they’re not going to give you an extra 50 or 100 horsepower, alone.
You can get race cats at places like Summit, Jegs…etc
